The aim of the Institute is to conduct and support research in all areas of Byzantine civilization. Special emphasis is placed on the study of the Peloponnese and in particular of the area of Lakonia. The Institute is interested in co-operation and joint projects with foreign institutions and Universities. The Institute strives to support the Graduate Studies of the Department of History, Archaeology and Cultural Resources Management, and of the Department of Philology of the University of Peloponnese, and to offer research opportunities to graduate students of other Universities.
